Light and Heavy Industrial

T5 vs HID HighbaysWhen planning indoor industrial lighting projects, it's important to consider how much airborne dirt and dust particles will be created. Dirt and dust build up on lamps and reflectors can reduce the amount of light that actually reaches the work plane. One way to avoid this problem is to install energy efficient, higher wattage lamps and highbay luminaires which can be spaced more widely apart. This is especially effective in high-ceiling manufacturing facilities with ceilings of 24'or higher. One light fixture with excellent efficiency is the Keene Performer Series Highbay. For very dirty, moist or hot environments, the best choice may be the Wide-Lite IL Series or Stealth Series Highbays.

In low-ceiling manufacturing areas (lower than 24'), glare is a key concern. It may be appropriate to use lower wattage lamps (e.g. 250 watt) and/or lowbay luminaires with acrylic refractors that soften the light at critical viewing angles. Good choices for this type of luminaire are the Keene Ultrabay, UltraLowbay, and Multilite. For extra dirty areas, or in environments where the ambient temperatures are higher, we would suggest using either the Wide-Lite MIL or EG Series.

Improved metal halide lamp technology has produced lower wattage lamps that provide the same enhanced light output with less wattage consumption. This technology, called Pulse Start, brings other benefits including longer lamp life, improved lumen maintenance, more consistent colour, and better cold temperature starting. If you are considering a lighting retrofit, either to improve your light levels or to save energy costs, consider using Pulse Start lamp technology which is available for use on virtually all Keene and Wide-Lite products.

Warehouse Distribution Centres

Aisle lighting is a specialized application usually found in warehouse distribution centres. An elongated or oblong pattern is required in order to put light uniformly on the racking, from the floor to the highest shelf. Normal industrial lighting fixtures (highbays) are usually not suitable for this type of application, due to the round pattern of light they produce. Additionally, a reflector that is designed to permit maximum spacing between fixtures down the aisle can be beneficial in reducing fixture counts and delivering energy savings.

In higher ceiling warehouse aisles (ceilings higher than 24'), specifically designed aisle lighting luminaires such as the Keene Vertic'Aisle, an open luminaire with outstanding performance on the shelves and down the aisle, is the right choice for the right light. For lower ceilings (buildings with ceilings lower than 24'), consider the additional visual comfort afforded by a lowbay type of luminaire, such as Keene's Ultrabay. This luminaire, with its dropped acrylic refractor to diffuse light, is an excellent choice for wide fixture spacing and good illumination on the racks.

For outstanding additional energy savings, consider Wide-Lite's Hi-Lo switching system. It offers a simple and effective way to achieve up to 60% energy savings during period of inactivity in each aisle. The Hi-Lo product also works well in factory warehouses and distribution facilities of all sizes. Pulse Start lamp technology is also available for warehouse lighting fixtures.

Restaurants

Restaurant lighting often supports a theme, thereby establishing quick image recognition. Consider as an example food dining areas where a space developed for fast food would contain a much different lighting scheme than one developed for fine dining, both intimate and leisurely. Where bright uniform lighting is required to set the tone Alter Recessed Louver fixtures are an ideal choice. Where an intimate lighting scheme is more appropriate the use of narrow beam recessed halogen Calculite Low Voltage Pin Hole fixtures focused onto each dining table helps provide the desired atmosphere. For a self-serve pastry or salad table the elegance of Silhouette Pendants could be the perfect choice. And for food preparation and other behind the scenes utility areas where light bulb glass containment is an issue consider wet location Cleanlite fixtures. For a distinctive look to complement the design theme or company image, Keene's Kaleidoscope series offers a wide selection of product variations.
