On May 9th, 2006 Mountain Equipment Coop celebrated the grand opening of their 11th store- a 15,000 square foot facility in Victoria BC. As with the past number of stores, all the lighting is Canlyte product.

This particular job was more challenging because MEC wants their stores to be bright yet the ceiling was only 14 feet high!

Canlyte needed a lensed fixture in T5HO, so the Cornwall factory provided the TH Director in a modified format for the job.The fixtures provide excellent vertical illumination on the merchandise with enough uplight so the store does not have a cave-like feeling. Two lamp units were used in the retail spaces and single lamp units were used in the back storage areas.

Impact lighting is provided using Lightolier 70W metal halide ED-17P Lytespot (8388EAL) in conjunction with T5HO PowerWash wall washers (9476AL & 9480AL). Fitting rooms are lighted with Lightolier 4X9 Matrix. All in all, the power density in this store is under 2 Watts per square foot! And the lighting has been accomplished with only 2 different lamp types making maintenance so much easier for store staff.

The store staff and project manager were all very pleased with the lighting. MEC has applied for LEED certification and is expecting to be awarded LEED Silver on this project
