iGEN: SUPERIOR LIGHTING CONTROL FLEXIBILITY TO HELP YOU SCORE MORE
LEED POINTS

In addition to providing cost-effective lighting alternatives for high-performance facilities, iGEN brings integrated, ergonomic and energy-efficient lighting solutions that help meet the sustainable design challenges of green buildings.

What is LEED?

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, is a building rating system created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED Canada, a similar rating system tailored specifically for Canadian climates, construction practices and regulations, is managed by the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC). LEED buildings incorporate design, construction and operational practices that combine healthy, high-quality and high-performance advantages with reduced environmental impacts.

How does it work?

LEED Canada provides a voluntary, consensus-based, market-responsive set of criteria that evaluate project performance from a whole-building, whole-life perspective, providing a common understanding for what constitutes a green building in the Canadian context. The LEED Canada rating system awards points according to specific performance criteria that surpass typical standard practice.

Who does the rating?

Improved building performance is rated independently by experienced design professionals that follow a well-defined and transparent methodology. Ratings are based on the total number of points earned by a project. They vary from Certified, Silver and Gold to Platinum, the highest level.

What buildings are rated?

In the U.S., there are LEED rating programs available for every building type and phase of a building lifecycle. Canada issued its first program, LEED Canada-NC v1.0 – New construction and major renovations – in December 2004. A second program, LEED Canada-CI v1.0 – Commercial Interiors – is available since early 2007. In each program, there are five main rating categories:

  • Sustainable Sites
  • Water Efficiency
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Energy and Atmosphere
  • Materials and Resources

An additional category, Innovation & Design Process, addresses sustainable building expertise as well as design measures not covered under the five other categories.

How does iGEN score LEED points?

Efficient iGEN lighting can typically contribute up to 6 LEED Canada-NC v1.0 points toward achieving sustainability objectives, in the following categories:

  • Sustainable Site (outdoor light pollution) – 1 point
  • Energy and Atmosphere – 3 points
  • Indoor Environmental Quality – 2 points
